Meta Ida Krohn obituary, 3/1/07


Meta Ida Krohn, age 92, of Howard Lake, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Howard Lake.
She was born Oct. 19, 1914 to Louis and Meta (Wandersee) Yager, in Woodland Twp., south of Waverly.
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Meta was baptized Nov. 15, 1914 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith April 1, 1927 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
She attended country school for six years, and was a student at St. James Lutheran School in Howard Lake for seventh and eighth grade.
Meta was united in marriage to Arthur Henry Krohn Aug. 26, 1934 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. C. G. Seltz officiating. Their marriage was blessed with nine children.
Meta and Arthur made their home and living on a farm in Victor Township, south of Howard Lake, until 1967, when they moved to town.
Meta was employed at Munson’s Bakery in Howard Lake for several years, and by the Green Thumb, working in the Howard Lake School District.
A faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, she served on the Altar Guild and as a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Volunteering at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Howard Lake and with the Howard Lake Garden Club were activities she enjoyed.
She had many talents including sewing, gardening, canning, freezing, baking, cooking, and making and selling Raggedy Ann dolls. She also raised animals, sold houseplants, and made quilts and teddy bears.
Meta is survived by her children, Jerry Krohn of Winsted, Ramona Kirchner of Sleepy Eye, Thomas Krohn, Rollie Krohn, both of Howard Lake, Rita Krohn, Paulette Krohn, both of Minneapolis, Dale (Jil) Krohn of Maple Grove, Grant (Debra) Krohn of Maple Lake, and Mary Krohn of Bloomington; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by a brother, Vernon (Mildred) Yager; sisters Lila (Ronnie) Yager and Erma Krohn; nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.
Meta was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Meta Yager; husband Arthur Krohn; sister Elda Haglin; brother Alvin Yager; daughter-in-law Barbara Krohn; and son-in-law Dean Kirchner.
Funeral services were Monday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Butterfass and the St. James LWML. Interment was at St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Casket bearers were Terry Kirchner, Keith Kirchner, Jeff Krohn, Greg Krohn, Shawn Krohn, Shannon Krohn, Dawn Krohn, Heidi Zahlsdorf, Tayana Whiteford, and Carmen Halverson.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake handled the arrangements.
