Leander Lawrence Meuleners
Leander Lawrence Meuleners, age 83, of Hollywood Township, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 at the Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born April 11, 1924 to Lawrence and Mary (Siegle) Meuleners in Chaska, Minn.
Leander was united in marriage to Jean Farniok Feb. 20, 1950 at the St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano.
Leander was a lifelong farmer in the Watertown area. He loved farming, especially combining. In the later years, his main job became doing the tillage work.
He was an avid reader and sheephead card player. Fishing with his friends and family was also something Leander enjoyed greatly. A birthday party was cause to celebrate, because it meant that the family would be getting together. He enjoyed old time music, and ushering at the 5:15 p.m. Mass at church.
Leander was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Meuleners; siblings and spouses, Simon and Irene Meuleners, Priscilla and Art Gabrelcik, Cyril and Dorothy Meuleners, Norbert Meuleners, and Aurelia “Bitsy” Barfknecht; brothers-in-law Ralph Wartman and Ron Remer; parents-in-law Martin and Margaret (Cebulla) Farniok; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John Farniok, Clem Farniok, Donald Farniok, Elaine Farniok and Beth Farniok.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean; sons Jeff and Mary Meuleners, and Jim and Joan Meuleners; daughters Sandy and Rich Sauerbrey, Cynthia and Mark Mathews, and Kathleen and Todd Drees; 14 grandchildren: Lori Smith and fiancé Mike Tarver, Michael and Karen O’Connell, Patrick O’Connell, Christopher and Lisa O’Connell, Melanie and Chad Menth, David and Jamie Meuleners, John Meuleners and friend Stacy, Andy and Tiffany Meuleners, Mike and Erin Meuleners, Christine, Rachel, Theodore, Travis, and Nicole Drees; and 15 great-grandchildren: Briana, Hayley, Carter, Georgette, Michael Jr., Lauren, Makenna, Jacob, Mitchell, Benjamin, Alexis, Elizabeth, Brooklyn, Jade and Nicholas.
Leander is further survived by sisters Rosemary Wartman, and Marcy and Leon Wickenhauser; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Irene Meuleners, Gene and Marge Barfknecht, Valeria Topel, Bob and Jean Farniok, Jim and Phyllis Farniok, Margaret and Marlow Abdnor, Wally Farniok, Eileen and Harold Gustafson, Carmen Farniok, Elaine Farniok, and Rich Farniok.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were John Meuleners, Mike Meuleners, Andy Meuleners, Christopher O’Connell, Theodore Drees, Travis Drees, Chad Menth and David Meuleners. Honorary bearers were Christine Drees, Rachel Drees, Nicole Drees, Melanie Menth, Lori Smith, Patrick O’Connell, and Michael O’Connell.
Arrangements were by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.
