Agnes Johanna Elizabeth Mills, age 89, of Norwood Young America, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born April 16, 1918, in Walker, Minn., the daughter of John and Philomena “Minnie” (Stauner) DeFlorin. Agnes received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and first communion at the Church Of St. Agnes in Walker.
She graduated from the Walker High School, and attended normal teacher’s training. Agnes taught in a one-room country school for four years.
She was united in marriage with LeRoy “Roy” E. Mills April 26, 1941, at the Church Of St. Agnes. This union was blessed with four children, Patricia, JoAnne, Barbara, and John.
The family lived in Walker, where Agnes was employed as a cook at the Walker High School for many years. In 1963, an employment change for LeRoy brought them to Norwood Young America. Agnes also worked as a cook at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She enjoyed crocheting, and was an accomplished seamstress. Agnes also enjoyed reading, dancing, and doing ceramics. In earlier years, she loved the time spent as a 4-H leader.
Agnes’ family was very important to her and she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Since July of 2006, Agnes had been a resident of the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Philomena; husband Roy; four brothers; and five sisters.
Agnes is survived by her children, Patricia Bajula (husband Gary) of Crosby, Texas, JoAnne Mankenberg (husband Clifford) of Howard Lake, Barbara Honebrink (husband Clarence) of Cokato, and John Mills (wife Mary) of Oakdale; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Church Of The Ascension in Norwood Young America with the Rev. Paul Ardolf officiating. The organist was Marilee Widmer. Music selections were “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Shall We Gather At The River.” Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation and evening parish prayer service took place Wednesday evening, Dec. 26 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Serving as casket bearers were David Bajula, Bob Bajula, Christine Gagner, Kip Mankenberg, Jodi Crawford, Tom Crawford, Kelly Mankenberg, Brian Honebrink, Beth Honebrink, Jarod Mills, and Jennifer Mills.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
