Christopher “Chris” Kevin Nelson
Christopher “Chris” Kevin Nelson, age 21, of Dassel, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at the Courage Center in Golden Valley.
He was born Aug. 3, 1986 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, the son of Kevin Nelson and Tammy (Onstad) Nelson. He grew up in the Dassel area, where he attended school, graduating from the Dassel Cokato High School in 2005.
Chris was a lifetime member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, where he was baptized and confirmed.
He loved to spend time with his family, especially during the holidays. A baseball fanatic, Chris enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins baseball games, and especially enjoyed going to watch the Dassel-Cokato Saints games.
Chris could sit for hours watching people and how they acted; he once started to wave at people who walked by him just to see if they would wave back. He accomplished many things in his short 21 years, including going water skiing and hunting, and he received a standing ovation at his high school graduation.
He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by both family and friends.
Chris is survived by his parents, Kevin Nelson of Dassel, and Tammy Nelson of Star Prairie, Wis.; grandparents, Warren and Joan Nelson of Dassel, and Norman and Gerda Onstad of New London; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; and an uncle, Randy Onstad in 1994.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. Organist was Florine Osness. Soloist John Benson sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “I Love to Tell the Story,” and “Borning Cry.” Interment was at the Dassel Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday evening, Aug. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
