Ethel Mary (Humlicek) Ogitzak, age 92, of Hutchinson, formerly of Silver Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born March 23, 1915, in Silver Lake, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Herzan) Humlicek. Ethel was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. She received her education at District 80 country school.
Ethel was united in marriage to Henry Ogitzak Aug. 19, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
The couple made their home in Silver Lake for five years and farmed with Henry’s parents in Hale Township. They built a house in Hutchinson, where they resided in for 45 years, before moving to their townhouse 12 years ago.
The couple also owned a cabin on Lake Villard, near Glenwood, for 17 years. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage before Hank passed away Oct. 2, 2003.
Ethel was employed at 3M in Hutchinson for approximately 22 years. She was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
A loving homemaker, Ethel enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, knitting, crocheting, traveling, snowmobiling, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed attending Pola-Czesky Days in Silver Lake.
Ethel loved family functions and driving around looking at Christmas lights each year with her family. Her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews were very important to her.
Ethel is survived by her sisters-in-law, Adeline Lindstrom of Cokato, Ann Brunberg of Maple Plain, and Alma Ogitzak of Silver Lake; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Humlicek; brothers Henry Humlicek and George Humlicek; sisters-in-law Alice Humlicek, Dorothy Baird, Gertrude Ogitzak, and Marcella Mikesh; and brothers-in-law Art Lindstrom, Harold Brunberg, Marvin Ogitzak, Clarence Ogitzak, Myron Mikesh, Glen Gatz, and Jim Baird.
Funeral service was Friday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with Father Jerry Meidl officiating. Organist was Bev Wangerin, gift carriers were Hannah Stifter, Jacob Stifter, and Mitchell Johnson; lector was Rose Ann Bailey, and song leader was Bobbi Ludewig. Music selections were “Be Not Afraid,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagle’s Wings,”and “Song of Farewell.” Interment was in Oakland Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Tony Humlicek, Dave Humlicek, Brad Mikesh, Bruce Stifter, Joe Chloupek, and Bill Nelson. Honorary casket bearer was Eugene Herzan.
Arrangements were by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
