Lillian Ardis Olson

She was born Aug. 11, 1918 in Marx, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Henry and Lena Sjestad, and a twin to her sister, Belva. Lillian’s mother died when she was three months old, and when her father was unable to care for the children, she was adopted by Albert and Lizzie Sjolie.

The family moved to Dawson, where Lillian owned and operated Lil’s Café in downtown Dawson. In later years she was a cook at several cafés including the Hunt Hotel in Montevideo.
Lillian spent her last four years lovingly cared for by her son, Gary and Bethel Krugerud Olson and their family, and the staff at St. Mary’s Senior Living Center in Winsted. In August, she represented the facility riding in the rumble seat of a classic car during Winsted’s annual parade.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; her birth father; sisters Millie and Belva; brother Orville; and “best” sister-in-law, Bernice and son-in-law Larry Christopherson.
