Beverly Janet “Bev” Ray

Beverly Janet “Bev” Ray, age 75, of Faribault, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born July 24, 1932, in Bridgewater, S.D., the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Rabe) Gross. Beverly was confirmed March 30, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bridgewater.

She graduated from Bridgewater High School, where she was homecoming queen.

Bev continued her education at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D. with degrees in teaching, social work, and business. She taught elementary school in Minnesota, California, and South Dakota for 11 years.

Bev married Laurence “Larry” Ray June 10, 1962, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

Bev loved people. She helped and supported many community organizations, including the food shelf and the Red Cross bloodmobile. She played the piano and organ, and accompanied many groups, individuals, and organizations.

She also volunteered her time and talents at Our Savior’s Lutheran church, helping with the Sunday school, the Rainbow Bazaar, altar guild, the church office, and worship committee.

Bev loved her family and was very concerned about others and their life experiences. She loved playing with her grandchildren and enjoyed music, especially trips to Branson for musical shows.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, of Faribault; a daughter, Becky (and Paul) Holm of Dassel; two grandchildren, Anna and Andrew Holm; three siblings, Keith (and Betty) Gross of Tacoma, Wash., George (and Jean) Gross of Winona, and Sheryl (and John) Tieszen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service was Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allan Nelson officiating. Interment was at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Visitation took place Wednesdsay, Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault, and continued Thursday for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

The Boldt Funeral Home in Fari-bault handled the arrangements.
