Esther Rivers, age 89, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Silver Lake and Waverly, died Sunday, April 29, 2007 in Sun City.
Graveside services will take place Thursday, July 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly, with a lunch and time for sharing of stories and memories following the service at Waverly KC Hall.
Esther was born Aug. 19, 1917 in Hollywood Township, to Martin Sherman and Mary Flasch Sherman.
She married Edmund Rivers Feb. 12, 1935, and they made their home in Silver Lake, where they operated a feed store. In 1950, they moved to Minneapolis.
In retirement, Esther and Edmund made their home in Waverly, where they had a home on the lake and Esther became an avid fisherman.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, Feb. 16, 1993.
She is survived by her children: daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Neal Judkins of Wickenburg, Ariz.; sons, Lee Rivers of Isle, Minn., and Ken Rivers of Montrose; and daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Phil Gradoz of El Mirage, Ariz.; a sister, Fay Carlson of Waconia; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass took place Thursday, May 3 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Arizona.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home in Arizona.
