DiAnn Irene ( Zeppelin) Schmitz, age 58, of Cokato, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at her home in Cokato upon losing her battle with cancer.
She was born July 27, 1949 to Henry and Myrtle Zeppelin, and was raised on the family farm near Darwin. DiAnn was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Dassel, and later confirmed at All Saints Lutheran Church of Darwin. She graduated from Dassel High School.
DiAnn began her working career at Ableconn (formerly National Connector Corporation), where she served faithfully in the production division until the onset of her illness.
DiAnn was united in marriage to Rob Schmitz Oct. 7, 1995 at All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin. She resided in Cokato with Rob and her son, Ryan Zeppelin.
DiAnn loved being a mother and grandmother and always kept photos of her family at her side. She enjoyed both foreign and domestic travel and acquired an appreciation for other cultures and traditions.
Most noted for her passion for Native American culture, DiAnn was an avid collector of indigenous artwork, and was a frequent visitor to rendezvous and other living history re-enactments. She was enchanted by music and continued learning throughout her life by reading.
A funeral service took place Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. Interment was at the All Saints Lutheran Cemetery in Darwin.
Visitation was Tuesday evening, Aug. 28 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
