Gail Sidel Schwandt
Gail Sidel Schwandt, age 54, of Cokato, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born Dec. 3, 1952, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Earl and Elaine (Olson) Schwandt. Gail was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
She attended country school district 78, known as Larson School. This school was built on the land of her great-great-grandparents, where Gail spent her childhood, growing up on the farm in Greenleaf Township, Meeker County.
Gail graduated from Litchfield High School in 1970. She attended and graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in home economics, and continued her education throughout her teaching career.
In her youth, Gail was a 4-H member, with many projects in foods, clothing, and dairy. She proudly represented the dairy industry as a Meeker County Dairy Princess, and also participated in many school activities. In more recent years, Gail enjoyed attending fairs to watch her nieces and nephews exhibit their 4-H projects at county and state levels.
Gail taught family and consumer science at Moorhead, Sartell, and Royalton, and for 15 years at the Dassel Cokato middle school and the adjoining high school, where she was currently employed. Her passion for teaching and connecting with youth was evident in the extra time she spent doing lesson plan research. She enjoyed presenting her middle school students with fun, practical sewing and baking projects, and of course, always celebrated completed projects by taking many photos of her students.
Gail always had her camera ready She firmly believed in the power of photos, making special memories, preserving the moment, and always sharing those photos with others.
She was very proud of her family, her heritage, and her friends. She especially enjoyed the good times had with her “sushi and champagne friends.”
Gail is survived by her parents, Earl and Elaine Schwandt of Litchfield; siblings and their spouses, Wm. (Bill) and Christine Schwandt of Morton, Brian and Beverly Schwandt of Litchfield, Janell and Clyde Johnson of Grove City, and Don and Shirley Classen of Mt. Iron; nine nieces and nephews; two grand nieces; one grand nephew; 35 cousins; and many dear friends.
