Arthur Herman Schwichtenberg obituary, 3/5/07


Arthur Herman Schwichtenberg, age 89, of Lester Prairie, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
He was born to Walter and Malinda Schwichtenberg July 12, 1917 in Lester Prairie, where he lived his entire life with the exception of US Naval duty and two years in Salem, Ore.
He was a lifelong member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie, and a 60-year member of American Legion Post 463, also in Lester Prairie.
He served eight years in the US Navy as an aviation mechanic aboard the USS Enterprise and at various other naval stations.
Arthur was founder and president of both Lester’s, Inc. and Polyfoam, Inc., following in the footsteps of both his father, Walter, and grandfather, Herman Engler, in the lumber business.
An avid golfer, Art was a long-time member of Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson, and a member of Wyndemere Country Club in Naples, Fla. in recent years, as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother James; first wife Marian (Marx); and son Joel.
Art is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Quirk); son Thomas J. Schwichtenberg; daughters Linda F. Schwichtenberg and Ann Marie Brickzen; daughter-in-law Jean (Behrens); granddaughters Kristin, Faith and Carmen; stepdaughters Susan (Mike) Carlson and Morgan Jennings; step-grandchildren Chris Platt and Andrew Cahn; brother Jon I. Schwichtenberg; sister Lois O’Rourke; and brother-in-law Jim Quirk.
The funeral service took place Friday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at Prairie Community United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, March 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued Friday, March 9 for one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
