Alma A. Sturman Obituary – 10/22/07


Alma Anna Sturman, age 87, of Delano, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 at the Elim Home in Watertown.

She was born April 23, 1920 to Charles and Lillie (Ziemer) Johnson in Delano.

Alma was united in marriage to Lyell Clark Sturman May 17, 1947 on the family farm west of Delano.

A sweet and gentle soul, Alma was proud of the fact that she was the longest continuous member of the Delano United Methodist Church. Her family was one of the original founding families of the church in Delano.

Alma enjoyed her extended family and the sharing of memories of the past. She was the genealogist in the family.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Alma loved to read, cook, and travel. Outings in the area were always looked forward to, going with her family to social gatherings or just a trip to the city to run errands.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lyell; son Robert; brothers Marvin Johnson, and Lester Johnson; and her sister, Leola Johnson.

She is survived by her children, daughter Becky and Jim Thorpe; sons Kevin “Buck” Sturman, and Tim and Denise Sturman; eight grandchildren: Joshua Sturman, Christa Sturman and Erik Johnson, Amber Otremba, Jesse Thorpe, Aaron Thorpe, Eric Sturman, Jacob Sturman, and Dillon Rouleau Sturman; two great-grandchildren, Kody and Karena Johnson; a sister, Carol and Jim Richards; daughter-in-law Lynn and Bill Otremba; and special friend, Becky Lynn Holmquest.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Delano United Methodist Church in Delano with the Rev. Hugh Stephenson officiating. Interment was in the Delano Public Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, Oct. 26 with a vigil service led by the Rev. Cheryl Williams.

Casket bearers were Jesse Thorp, Eric Sturman,, Steve Henning, Mike Richards, Bill Sturman, and Joshua Sturman.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
