Wallace “Wally” Henry Tanke, age 69, of Lester Prairie, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
He was born Feb. 25, 1938 in Litchfield, the son of Walter and Erna Buckentine Tanke. Wally was baptized March 13, 1938 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, and instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 6, 1952 at the same church.
Wally was formerly employed at The Dodge House in Lester Prairie as a bartender for 17 years. He also had worked for Radtke Excavating and Central By Products.
He is survived by his loving companion and best friend, Lois Fiecke; sons Greg Tanke of Arizona, Jeff Tanke of Wood Lake, James Tanke of Hamburg, Jeremy Fiecke and fiancée Alyssa Braun of Watertown, and Ryan Fiecke of New Germany; a stepson, Chris Fiecke of Lester Prairie; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Wally is further survived by his mother, Erna Tanke of Hamburg; extended family Leona Fiecke of Lester Prairie, Carol Pogue and special friend Terry Thomson of Chisago City, Joan (Alan) Teubert of Hutchinson, Janet Grimm and special friend Loren Karnes of LeSueur, Marilyn (Doug) Ranzau of Glencoe, and Renee (Kent) Glessing of Hutchinson; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Dittmer; his father, Walter Tanke; and his father-in-law, Eugene Fiecke.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Prairie Evangelical U.C.C. in Lester Prairie with the Rev. William Baldwin officiating. Interment followed at Church of God Cemetery in Bergen Township.
Friends called Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
Casket bearers were Craig Mitchell, Pat Nebben, Greg Gatz, Gene Feltmann, Glen Templin, and Bob Kruschke.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
