Genevieve Francis Annie Thayer
Genevieve Francis Annie Thayer, age 93, of Hutchinson, formerly of Cokato, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 29, 1914, on the Ward homestead in Maple Lake, the daughter of Thomas and Annie (Zumbusch) Ward. Genevieve was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in Maple Lake.
A graduate of Maple Lake High School, class of 1932, she furthered her education at the American Business College in Minneapolis, and graduated from there in 1936.
Genevieve was united in marriage to Gordon Horace Thayer Sept. 4, 1937. This marriage was blessed with five children.
Genevieve and Gordon resided in Annandale, until they moved to Ellsworth, Wis. in 1964.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Genevieve helped Gordon operate the Thayer Department Store in Annandale, and the Ben Franklin store in Ellsworth.
In 1978, Genevieve moved to Cokato to be near her daughter, Mary. She held employment at Cokato Manor as a cook, and babysat for area children.
Genevieve attended St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.
She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, traveling with family, gardening, and creating beautiful flower arrangements.
Genevieve became a resident of the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson in April 2003.
She is survived by her children, Ward “Skip” Thayer of Duluth, Mary Krenik of Hutchinson, Steven Thayer of Ellsworth, Wis., and Patrick Thayer and his wife, Christine of Altoona, Wis.; grandchildren, Stephanie Lillard and her husband, Chris, Geofrey Thayer, Jean Thayer, Chase Thayer, Kim Gonzalez and her husband, Alejandro, Scott Morris and his wife, Tracey, David Morris and his wife, Lori, Melissa Waalen and her husband, Micah, Nicolas Thayer, Travis Thayer, Angela Thayer, and Andrew Thayer; and great-grandchildren, Zacary Thayer, Lucas Thayer, Jeremiah Thayer, Joel Thayer, Christiana Thayer, Christopher Gonzalez, Alexis Gonzalez, Taylor Gonzalez, Shawn Morris, Shane Morris, Zachary Morris, Blake Morris, Kade Waalen, Ryan Zitzloff, Devin Zitzloff, Emily Lillard. and Kathryn Lillard.
She is further survived by daughters-in-law Rose Thayer of Forest Lake, Minn., and Susan Thayer of Hudson, Wis.; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Annie Ward; husband, Gordon Thayer; son, David Thayer; grandsons, Shawn Allen Morris, Alan Thayer, and David Thayer and his wife, Nancy Beth; siblings, Agnes Ward, Marg Hamm, George Ward, Mary Kugler, John Ward, Ray Ward, Kit Crangle, Tom Ward and Don Ward; and son-in-law, Lawrence Krenik.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with Father Jerry Meidl officiating. Organist was Bev Wangerin, and song leaders were Bobbi Ludewig and Steve Krenik. Musical selections were “Ave Maria,” “The Prayer,” “Danny Boy,” “Song of Farewell,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Table of Plenty.” Interment was at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale.
Genevieve’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary casket bearers.
Arrangements were by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
