Clarence A. Vinkemeier obituary, 9/28/07


Clarence A. Vinkemeier, age 90, of LeSueur, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 at the St. Peter Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Green Isle Township, Sibley County to Henry and Louise (Erdmann) Vinkemeier. Clarence attended country school and farmed with his parents near Henderson.
He married Gertrude Ehlers Aug. 27, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle Township. They rented farms near Arlington, Glencoe and Victoria.
In 1955, they purchased a farm in Henderson Township, Sibley County, where Clarence still resided at the time of his death. A dairy, hog and small grain farmer, he also drove pea and corn trucks for Green Giant.
Clarence was an active member of Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson, serving as an elder and mission treasurer.
He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid NASCAR race fan.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Gertrude; children, Carol E. Nelson of Ortonville, Darlene (Jerry) Wolfe of Walker, Phyllis (Roger) Meffert of Gaylord, Wayne Vinkemeier of Stewart, Bruce (Marilyn) Vinkemeier of Glencoe, Dale (Julie) Vinkemeier of Henderson, Dennis (Diane) Vinkemeier of Gaylord, and Kent Vinkemeier of LeSueur; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a brother, Norman (Cordy) Vinkemeier of Glencoe; and two sisters, Viola Muelners of Brownton, and Mabel Vinkemeier of Glencoe.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; brother Elford Vinkemeier; sister, Myrtle Vinkemeier; two sons-in-law, Tom Nelson and Jerry Dietel; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Vinkemeier.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. from Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson with the Rev. Fredric Hinz officiating. Interment was at Brown Cemetery in Henderson.
Arrangements were handled by the Kolden Funeral Service of Henderson.
