Sylvester “Windy” Wagener, age 85, of Waconia, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at his residence.
He was born July 23, 1922 in Waconia, the son of John and Barbara (Schlechter) Wagener. Windy was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis J. Hartstrom Nov. 22, 1958 at St. Boniface Church in Northeast Minneapolis.
Windy was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and singing in the St. Joe’s Funeral Choir.
A graduate of Waconia High School, Windy was a baseball player, an avid sports fan, and a great story teller. He was a member of the Waconia Knights of Columbus Council and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Aid Society.
Windy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Wagener; sister, Audrey Widmer; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Frances Hartstrom.
He is survived by his loving family, wife Phyllis; sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Lori Wagener of Edina, and Tim and Jan Wagener of Minneapolis; grandchildren Kyle, Hannah, Zachary, and Isabelle Wagener, and Jack and Aaron Wagener; brother and sister-in-law Francis and Marian Wagener of Watertown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carl and Joanna Widmer of Spring Park, and Larry and Dorene Hartstrom of Atikin; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia with Father Lawrence Blake as celebrant. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Waconia.
Casket bearers were Tom Wagener, Dale Wagener, Mark Wagener, Steve Widmer, Mike Hartstrom, and Paul Meuwissen.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
