Vernice A. Weiland obituary, 4/27/07


Vernice A. Weiland, age 87, of Waconia, died Friday April 27, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
She was born June 27, 1919 in Clara City, Minn., the daughter of George and Katherine (Vogel) Koehnen, and baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
Vernice was united in marriage to Andrew J. Weiland Sr. Nov. 26, 1936 at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; son Roger Weiland; granddaughter Beth Ann Weiland; great-granddaughters Amy and Ann Schmidt; great, great-grandson Matthew Dietel; parents George and Katherine Koehnen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Andrew and Emma Weiland; brothers Val and Dave Koehnen; sisters Leona Latterner and Catherine Blackowiak; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Norbert Bauer, Kenneth Gothmann, Fairy Koehnen, Anna Koehnen, Pete and Leona Weiland, Wally and Virginia Weiland, Hank Weiland, James Weiland, Marty and Francis Salden, Albert Weiland, Lawrence Weiland and Emma Weiland.
Andrew passed away Jan. 13, 1982.Vernice then moved from Mayer to the Evergreen Apartments, although for the last five-and-a-half years, she resided at Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
Vernice was a hard worker who loved cooking, baking, canning, gardening, and always wore her apron. She loved to entertain, and fed anyone who came into her home, no matter what time they came. She also loved to play games, cards, and do 1,000-piece puzzles.
She is survived by her loving children and spouses, Betty and Keith Donahue of Mayer, Mary and Hans Meyer of Waconia, Kenneth and Judy Weiland of Waconia, Marilyn Weiland of Waconia, Andrew and Susan Weiland of Harwich, Mass., Linda and Roger Sauerbrey of Norwood Young America, Gerald and Christine Weiland of Waconia, Debbie and Dale Muhs of Watertown, Susan and Larry Goede of Waconia, and Charles and Joanne Weiland of Mayer; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and seven great, great-grandchildren.
Vernice is further survived by her sisters, Lois Bauer of St. Bonifacius, Millie Gothmann of Waconia, and Jane Lisle of Houston, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law George and Eilleen Koehnen of Excelsior, and Dale and Mary Koehnen of Zepher Hills, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Lee Koehnen of Victoria, Chet Blackowiak of Excelsior, Bernice Weiland of St. Bonifacius, Betty Weiland of Coos Bay, Ore., and Verna Weiland of Mound; special friend and roommate Lyla Tollefson of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday May 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia, with the Rev. Lawrence Blake as celebrant of the Mass. Interment was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Watertown.
Casket bearers were Vernice’s grandsons: Mike Donahue, Rick Meyer, Jeff Weiland, Adam Weiland, Allen Sauerbrey, Ben Muhs, Cody Weiland, and Kurt Weiland.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
