Marlene E. Schmidt, Obituary – 12/03/08


Marlene E. Schmidt, age 67, of Norwood Young America, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at her home.

Marlene was born July 25, 1941, in Watertown, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Rolf) Quaas. She was baptized Aug. 17, 1941, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. E. H. Stahlke, and confirmed April 3, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. M.F. Rische.

On Sept. 29, 1963, Marlene was united in marriage to Charles W. Schmidt at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Griebel.

Marlene loved knitting, cross stitching, and playing cards. She was a very generous person, always giving of her time. One of her favorite enjoyments was spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents Fred and Bertha Quaas; and a sister in infancy.

Marlene is survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Marla Quaas of Winsted, and Estella Schmidt of Norwood Young America; nieces and nephews Brian and Joan Quaas, Bradley and Shelly Quaas, Brent and Monica Quaas, Amy and Art Knutson, and Tara and Marty Seltz; 14 great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America with the Rev. Scott Gustafson officiating. A time of visitation preceded the service for two hours at the church. Interment was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Norwood Young America.

Casket bearers were Brian Quaas, Bradley Quaas, Brent Quaas, Art Knutson, Marty Seltz, Jesse Quaas, Clayton Quaas, Gerrick Quaas, and Evan Quaas.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia, MN; online condolences at www.johnsonfh.com.
