Stanley Charles Ahlgren, age 91, of Darwin, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at the Lakeview Ranch in Darwin.
He was born July 11, 1916, in Dassel, the son of Charles and Ellen (Anderson) Ahlgren. A baptized, born-again believer, Stanley was a member of the Dassel Church of Christ at the time of his death.
He grew up in the Dassel area and attended country school for his education.
Stanley was united in marriage to Lucille Radunz Sept. 1, 1937, at Lucille’s parent’s farm. Together they farmed in Ellsworth Township, Meeker County, for many years.
Stanley was an elder, and taught Sunday school at his church. He loved to talk politics and had been a candidate for a Minnesota state representative seat. He served as the vice president for Minnesota Farm Bureau.
An accomplished farmer, Stanley would spend many hours on his tractor. He was a wonderful woodworker and could be found in his shop working on projects. He also enjoyed flying airplanes as a hobby.
Lucille and Stanley spent many winters in Texas. He will deeply be missed by his family and friends.
Stanley is survived by his children, Joanne (Ron) West of Joplin, Mo., Richard (Jeanne Lager) Ahlgren of Plymouth, Ronald (Barb) Ahlgren of Worthington, Bob (Connie) Ahlgren of Dassel, David (Mary) Ahlgren of Darwin, Steve (Pam) Ahlgren of Darwin, and Galen (Sue) Ahlgren of Darwin; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wilton “Bud” (Wilma) Ahlgren of Dassel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant grandson.
Funeral service was Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Dassel, with the Revs. Marc Grindle and Ronald Ahlgren officiating. Heidi Terning was the organist, and Rev. Ronald Ahlgren was the accordionist. Interment was at the Dassel Cemetery.
Visitation took place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, Jan. 17 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
