Ralph Marvin Arnold, age 79, of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.
He was born May 1, 1928, to Gilbert and Florence (Engelman) Arnold on a farm south of Howard Lake. Ralph was baptized June 10, 1928, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake by the Rev. Eugene Seltz; and confirmed at the same church March 29, 1942.
Ralph transferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church Oct. 30, 2005.
He married Ethel Jauss Oct. 18, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. To this marriage, three children were born: Linda, Lynne, and Bruce. The couple recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Ralph joined the US Army May 5, 1945, serving his country until May of 1949. While in the Navy, he was on a DMS34, LSM Landing Ship DMS85, and then the USS Doyle B.D.
Ralph worked construction, drove truck, farmed, and raised standard bred horses.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Howard Lake; children Lynne (Gary) Jevnager, and Bruce Arnold; sister Sharon (Jim) Dalbec; brother Dennis (Mary) Arnold; and grandson Michael Dahlin.
Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Vaughn; his parents; a brother, Orville (Kaye) Arnold; and sisters, Arlene (Robert) Pairier, and Yvonne Brecht.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating. Music was provided by Grant Judd and Dennis Entinger. Interment was at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Urn bearers were Gary Jevnager, Michael Dahlin, Matthew Dalbec, Jim Dalbec, Dave Bleth, John Kadlec, Alan Pudlitzke, Glen Pudlitzke, Gerald Gruenhagen, and Jeff Evenski.
Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home.
