Bernice Charlotte Axeen, age 87, of Dassel, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
She was born Oct. 6, 1920 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Peter C. and Freda (Anderson) Peterson. Bernice grew up and graduated from high school in the Minneapolis area.
She married Kenneth V. Axeen in 1953, and they resided in the Minneapolis area for many years. They had no children, but cherished their schnauzer “Heidi.”
Bernice was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 22 years, until the couple relocated to Brainerd.
After Ken’s retirement, they settled in Dassel. They were members of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
Bernice’s activities became increasingly limited as she battled an unusual type of diabetes, caused by Lyme’s disease. One “hobby” that she continued was to faithfully send birthday cards to everyone she knew.
Bernice loved her Lord and we rejoice with her at her home-going.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Harold, Gordon, and Dorothy (Mrs. Willard) Swanson.
A memorial service took place Friday, July 18 at 2 p.m. at the Dassel Lakeside Apartments with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
