In 1972, they relocated to Brainerd, where Ken worked for the Department of Natural Resources.
Ken and Bernice moved to Dassel after they retired, where they worshipped at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cokato, and later joined the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
After the Cokato tornado, Ken headed a project to reclaim the shattered stained glass from the destroyed Good Shepherd Church and re-cut it for the use in the new church.
Ken and Bernice had no children.
