Funeral services celebrating the life of Grace Wilhelmine Bachmann, age 86, of Norwood Young America, took place Thursday, July 24 at the Church Of Peace in Norwood Young America. Grace died Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Grace was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Minneapolis, the second of twin daughters of Ernest and Fernie (Paulmann) Schlingmann. She was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in the faith June 24, 1940, at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards.
Grace was united in marriage with Herman A. Bachmann Sept. 28, 1939, at the St. John’s Church of Bongards.This union was blessed with five children: Albert, Leland, Bertha, Ann Marie, and Kenneth. Grace suffered the death of her husband in July of 1986.
Grace enjoyed gardening and canning. She loved to spend her time volunteering, and was a member of the Church Of Peace’s Women’s Guild, a 1958 charter member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1783, a volunteer for the Meals On Wheels program for Church Of Peace, a Ridgeview Medical Center volunteer, a Belle Plaine Historical Society volunteer, and a member of the Norwood Senior Citizens.
In addition to her husband, Herman, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; sons Albert and Leland; one brother; and six sisters.
She is survived by her children, Bertha Ide (husband Larry) of Lester Prairie, Ann Marie Gleason (husband Jack) of Norwood Young America, and Kenneth Bachmann (wife Jill) of Plover, Wis.; daughter-in-law Diane Mielke (husband Bob) of Lacey, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Grace is further survived by sisters and brother Mildred Honebrink of Belle Plaine, John Schlingmann (wife June) of Kingsport, Tenn., and Alice Triplett of Belle Plaine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Leona Schlingmann, Harold Kruschke, all of Belle Plaine, Marvin Ziermann of Brandon, S.D., Henry Bachmann, Wilfred and Clariss Bachmann, and Orville and Ruth Bachmann, all of Norwood Young America; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Officiating at the 11 a.m. funeral service was the Rev. Lynda A. Johnson. The organist was Nancy Smith. Soloist Bill Grundahl sang “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” and soloist Mike Bachmann sang “Old Rugged Cross.” The congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “Blessed Assurance.”
Visitation, evening prayer service, and VFW Auxiliary service took place Wednesday evening, July 23 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Serving as casket bearers were Jeanette and Larry Bachmann, Tom Schlingmann, Edward and Lorna Schmidt, Christine and David Smith, and Marie Storms. Honorary casket bearers were Jeffrey Bachmann, Matthew Bachmann, Chad Bachmann, Todd Bachmann, Beth Ann Schmidt, Nathan Ide, Richard Bachmann, Melissa Williams, Benjamin Bachmann, Zachary Bachmann, and Jacob Bachmann.
