Clara A. Belland, age 88, of Waverly, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born Aug. 28, 1920, in White Bear Beach, MN, the daughter of Norman and Delia Jarvis LaBarre.
Clara A. LaBarre and Ervin D. Belland were joined in holy marriage Aug. 31, 1940, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in White Bear Lake. God blessed their marriage with a son, Melvin.
A faithful member of The Church of St. Mary in Waverly, Clara actively participated in St. Mary’s CCW, prayer group, and Bible study. She also was a member of the Waverly Senior Citizens.
Clara was employed for 32 years as a school cook in District 877. Through the years, she was involved in The Little Crow Chapter of school cooks.
Clara is survived by a son, Melvin M. (Bonnie) Belland of Waverly; grandchildren Jill Belland of Claremont and Michael Belland of Waverly; a sister, Marge (Jon) Hartwick of Mahtomedi; two brothers, Andy LaBarre of Stillwater and Tommy (Betty) LaBarre of Danbury, WI; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine LaBarre of Vadnais Heights and Helen LaBarre of White Bear Lake; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin D. Belland, June 27, 1997; her parents, Norman and Delia LaBarre; an infant brother, Melvin LaBarre; a brother, Donald LaBarre; and by a sister, Florence Myers.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the celebrant, and interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Casket bearers were Scott Hartwick, Jim LaBarre, Randy Luebben, Keith Peterson, Bruce Peterson, and Ben Driver.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
