Frieda Wilhelmina Beneke, wife of the late Edgar Senne, age 91, of Glencoe, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
She was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Helen Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Schuette) Dose. Frieda was baptized Jan. 1, 1917, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Plato by the Rev. Zwintscher; and confirmed in the faith by the same April 13, 1930.
Frieda was united in marriage with Elwin F. Beneke May 12, 1935, at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Zwintscher. This union was blessed with three children: Wilfred, Noel, and Bernie.
The couple made their home on a farm in rural Carver County near Hamburg. Upon retiring from farming, Frieda and her husband moved to Glencoe. Elwin died in April of 1979.
Frieda was married to Edgar W. Senne Sept. 9, 1989. The couple made their home on the Senne farm until moving to Orchard Estates in Glencoe in 2003. Edgar died in April of this year.
Frieda was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and a past member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Outside of the home, Frieda worked as a waitress for many years, and for Telex Communications for over 20 years. She always preferred to stay busy by taking short trips, playing cards and bingo, crocheting, doing crafts, and fishing. She enjoyed living on the farm.
In addition to her husbands, Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Wilfred Beneke; a grandchild, Jean; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Frieda is survived by her children, Noel Beneke (wife Carolyn) of Alexandria, and Bernie Beneke (wife Shirley) of Elk River; grandchildren Noel “Chuck” Beneke (wife Jennifer) of Kapolei, Hawaii, Dean Beneke of Greenville, Texas, Julie Rhodes (husband Phil) of Iwakuni, Japan, Keith Beneke (wife Kathy) of Lakeville, Kevin Beneke (wife Jody) of Princeton, and Sheila Skog (husband Tracy) of Woodbury; and 17 great grandchildren. She is further survived by stepchildren Arvin Senne (wife Linda) of Minnetrista, Eunice Peterson (husband Doug) of Gaylord, Barbara Diehn (husband David) of Arlington, and Lawrence Senne (wife Kim) of Hayward, Wis; 12 step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ed Beneke of Hamburg; sisters-in-law Lena Beneke of Hamburg, and Frieda Leininger of Edina; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Frieda Beneke took place Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato with the Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating. The organist was Cheryl Andrix. Trumpet accompaniment was provided by Kevin Beneke. Soloist Lawrence Biermann sang “Muede bin ich, geh zur uh.” The congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” and “How Great Thou Art.” The urn bearer was Keith Beneke. Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
