Edna M. Brandenburg Obituary – 06/04/08


Edna M. Brandenburg, age 92, of Waconia, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born July 12, 1915, in Plato, the daughter of Emil and Elizabeth (Schimmel) Engelmann. Edna was baptized Aug. 8, 1915, at Friedens County Line Church in Plato by the Rev. Nicolaiski, and confirmed March 24, 1929, at the same church by the Rev. Hafermann.

Edna was united in marriage to Lloyd W. Brandenburg May 12, 1938, at Friedens County Line Church in Plato by the Rev. Nussman. She worked with Lloyd on the farm and was a “domestic engineer.”

A loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Edna enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. She took great pleasure in playing bingo, cards, quilting, embroidering, and gardening.

She was a member of Seniors for Christ at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents Emil and Elizabeth Engelmann; brothers and sisters-in-law Edwin and Eleanor Engelmann, Robert and Anna Engelmann, Art and Ruth Engelmann, Albert Engelmann, and Herbert and Dorothy Engelmann; sisters and brothers-in-law Emma and Edwin Luebke, Nora and Ernest Schrupp, and Della and Clifford Volkenant; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alvin Hamann, Paul and Rose Brandenburg, Erwin and Emma Brandenburg, and Roy Herrmann.

She is survived by her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Jerry Kahle of Cologne, and Betty and Dale Barfnecht of Mayer; grandchildren Daryl and Michelle Barfnecht, Michelle and Kurt Schroeder, Craig Kahle and special friend Jennifer Goetz, Kimberly and Troy Seeman, and Douglas Barfnecht; and great-grandchildren Rebecca, Courtney, Brett, Ashley, Kaitlin, Laura, Tyler, and Mason.

Edna is further survived by a sister, Louise Hamann of Waconia; sister-in-law Lorena Herrmann of Watertown; aunts Leona Ketcher, and Melinda Ketcher, both of Spring Park; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Saturday June 7 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. James Wilk officiating. Interment was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Montrose.

Casket bearers were Edna’s grandchildren: Daryl Barfnecht, Michelle Barfnecht, Douglas Barfnecht, Michelle Schroeder, Craig Kahle, Kimberly Seeman, Kurt Schroeder, and Troy Seeman.
