Carol L. Calgren, age 93, of Minneapolis, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Mt. Olivet Careview Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Taylor, Wis.
Carol was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Stout.
She taught home economics for 40 years in Freeborn, Cokato, Howard Lake, and Wayzata.
Carol was well known for her community style shows, craft fairs, and community events in an era when home economics still emphasized cooking and sewing.
When she retired in 1977 from Wayzata High School, Carol worked part time at Donaldson’s department store in Southdale.
She traveled extensively, and enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton D. Calgren; father, Edwin Chenoweth; mother, Julia Chenoweth; sisters Evelyn and Virginia Chenoweth; and brothers Ronald and Harry Chenoweth.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Mary) Calgren of Edina; grandchildren, Megan (James) Holroyd of Stillwater, and Kevin (Sonya) Calgren of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Owen Holroyd and Clara Calgren; and nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services have been held. Interment was at Cokato City Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel.
