Kenneth Richard Conrad

Kenneth Richard Conrad, age 83, of Winsted, formerly of Biscay, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at St. Mary’s Care Center.

He was born March 22, 1925, in Biscay, the son of William and Elsie (Fulsang) Conrad. Kenneth was baptized as an infant at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County.

He received his education at country school near Biscay, and later received his GED.

Kenneth entered active military service in the United States Army May 20, 1943, and served his country for 26 years. He retired with the rank of master sergeant, and received his honorable discharge June 18, 1972.

Kenneth was united in marriage to Agnes Fasching Nov. 10, 1949, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Donna.

Kenneth and Agnes resided in various cities at military bases and in 1972, moved to Biscay. They shared 51 years of marriage, until Agnes passed away Feb. 26, 2000.

He attended St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.

He was a member of Hutchinson VFW Post 906, and the Winsted VFW Post 9232.

Kenneth enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He liked to travel, and loved to play 5-cent poker. He played Santa Claus for many years at family homes, churches, and nursing homes; and especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter.

Kenneth became a resident of St. Mary’s Senior Living Center in Winsted March 10, 2006.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Conrad of Biscay; sister Geri McMahon of Yankton, SD; brother “Bud” Conrad of Yankton, SD; sister-in-law Ann Fasching of Winsted; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

In addition to his wife, Agnes, Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsie Conrad; a brother, Harry Conrad and his wife, Gen; and a brother-in-law, Phillip McMahon.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson, with Father Jerry Meidl officiating. Organist was Paula Straub, and song leader was Rosine Hermodson-Olsen. Musical selections included “Gather Us In,” “Shepherd Me, O God,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Lead Me, Lord.” Interment was in Fort Snelling Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Care Center Chapel, and continued Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Dean Shermann, Ronny Zachmann, Roman Haas, Jerry Brown, and members of the Conrad and McMahon families.
