Elsie Edna Charlotte (Radunz) Edlund

Elsie Edna Charlotte (Radunz) Edlund, age 91, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008.

She was born Oct. 9, 1917, in rural Darwin, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Kohlmyre) Radunz. Elsie attended district school in Ellsworth Township.

She was a baptized born again believer and attended the Church of Christ in Dassel during the years she made her home there.

Elsie was united in marriage to Willard Roland Edlund June 5, 1948, in Darwin.

They made their home in Kandiyohi for 16 years, before moving to Little Falls, where they built and managed Lake Beauty Covenant Bible Camp. They served the Lord there until Willard’s death in 1975.

Elsie returned to the Dassel area in 1978, where she enjoyed renewing old friendships and making new ones.

In 1993, she moved to Maryland to live with her youngest daughter, Jacki, and her family. In 2004, she moved to Bowie, MD, to live with her eldest daughter and husband.

Elsie was selected Meeker County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1988, in recognition for her lifelong dedication to serving others in both the community and her church.

She loved children and teaching them about the love of Jesus, teaching Sunday school throughout her adult years, well into her 70s.

An avid sports fan, Elsie especially enjoyed following the Minnesota Gophers and the Baltimore Orioles. She loved to spend time with her family, and enjoyed the years that she helped care for her grandchildren.

Elsie enjoyed traveling throughout the US, and in her later years, travelled abroad to visit family and see sights in France and Switzerland.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Elsie is survived by her children, Gayla (Steve) Schmerbeck of Bowie, MD, Thomas (Gloria Cox) Edlund of Owatonna, and Jacqueline (Ronald) Braun of White Plains, MD; six grandchildren, Philip (Nandini Bagchee) Schmerbeck of Brooklyn, NY, Patricia Schmerbeck of Houston, TX, Erik and Ingrid Braun of White Plains, MD, Allen (Cathy) Cox, and Dawn (Darin) Hanneman, all of Owatonna; and three great-grandchildren, Tony and Katelyn Hanneman, and Melissa Cox, all of Owatonna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, Nov. 7, 1975; and by her siblings, Frank Radunz, Ernest Radunz, Lucille Ahlgren, Louise Osberg, and Henry Radunz.

The funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Dassel Church of Christ with Pastor Ronald Ahlgren officiating. Music was provided by Pastor Ronald Ahlgren on the accordion, organist Jeanette Tomlinson, and pianist Maribel Gilmer. Hymns included “When We All Get To Heaven,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Until Then,” and “What A Day That Will Be.” Interment was in the Dassel Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Bob Ahlgren, Steve Ahlgren, David Ahlgren, Galen Ahlgren, Allen Cox, and Philip Schmerbeck.
