Francis Rose Emerson, age 68, of Hinckley, formerly of Cokato and Bloomington, died suddenly at her home Monday, March 3, 2008.
She was born Sept. 18, 1939, to John and Maritta (Puglisi) Ferrera. The family moved to Minneapolis, where Fran graduated from North High in 1957. She also attended college at St. Scholastica and UMD.
In 1960, Fran was united in marriage to Neil Emerson. This union was blessed with three children, Michael, Richard, and Ann Marie. The couple lived in various cities in Minnesota, as well as in Chicago, Ill. and Detroit, Mich.
The happiest time in Fran’s life was while raising her children. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1975, when Neil and Fran purchased Lakeside Roller Rink in Cokato. The entire family worked together to run the rink. While Fran enjoyed managing it, she also became an excellent skater.
In 1982, Fran completed training and became a travel agent. She owned her own business, and worked for several agencies. Her favorite part of her job was organizing and leading bus tours and cruises.
In 1995, Fran began working for Northwest Airlines as a reservations agent. There, she was known to her many friends as “Rosie.” She retired in 2005, but always felt she was a part of the Northwest community.
During that same year, Neil and Fran moved to Hinckley, Minn.
Fran loved her six grandchildren, especially enjoying cooking for them, buying them gifts, and giving them big hugs. She was especially proud of her children’s accomplishments.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Neil; sons, Michael (Joni) Emerson, and Richard (Karin) Emerson; daughter, Ann Emerson; grandchildren, Anthony, Josiah, Leah, Sophia, Abigail and Maria; sister, Angie (James) Hanson; brother, Richard (Barbara) Ferrera; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Thursday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie.
