Norman E. Filkins, age 69 of Norwood Young America passed away at his home on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008.
Norman was born September 5, 1938 in Hopkins to Darrell and Elaine (Makousky) Filkins.
Norman was a loving husband, dad and grandpa. Norman coached and taught girls fast pitch softball for over 25 years. Norman was truly an artist in carousel horse carving.
He had a love of the land and the farm he was living on. He enjoyed fishing and being on the water. Self proclaimed “Big handsome brute.”
A memorial service was held Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with visitation from 5 p.m. until the time of the service; officiating Chaplain Bob Haskin.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents Darrell and Elaine Filkins.
Norman is survived by his loving family; wife Patrice; children and spouses James and Denise Filkens of Albertville, Teresa and Bob Welch of Morgan, Melissa and Joe Neumann of Winsted, Erika and Michael Leen of New Germany, Amanda and Brent Gregor of Hasting; grandchildren Seamus Filkins, John, Mike and Sarah Welch, Ashley, Brittany and Caitlin Burke, Emma, Maddie and Joey Neumann, Braxtyn and Brody Leen, Cole and Macie Gregor; father-in-law Albert Sauerer of Waconia; sister and brother-in-law Edie and Ken Swartz of Arizona; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
