James Harold “Jim” Forsberg, age 65, of Grand Forks, N.D., died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at his home.
He was born May 30, 1943, in Cokato, the son of Harold and Sigrid (Alm) Forsberg.
Jim graduated from Moorhead High School in 1962.
He married Lynda Peterson and became a father to four children, Gregory, Jamilyn, Brian, and Jason. The family lived in Minnesota, Michigan, and Iowa, before returning to the Fargo-Moorhead area, where Jim worked in the clothing industry.
In 1976, they moved to Grand Forks, where Jim pursued a career managing automotive dealerships. After holding several positions, he opened his own independent dealership, known to the Grand Forks community for nearly three decades as “Forsberg Motors.”
There are many wonderful stories that tell of how Jim would barter and trade to do everything he could to help a customer buy a car. “It isn’t about the glitter,” Jim would say, but more about, “come as you are and have a cup of coffee while buying a nice car that you can afford.”
In 1982, Jim married Eileen (Hanson) Soberaski. Jim and Eileen spent their summers in Grand Forks, and winters in Sun City Grand, Ariz.
Jim is survived by his mother, Sigrid Sandie of Grand Forks, N.D.; wife Eileen Forsberg of Grand Forks; daughter Jamilyn Forsberg Fournier of Illinois; sons Greg Forsberg of Minnesota, Brian Forsberg, and Jason Forsberg, both of Arizona; stepdaughter Shari Reynolds of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; sister Judi; and stepfather Wyman Sandie.
Funeral service was Monday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Visitation was Sunday, June 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks.
