Norris O. Gjerstad Obituary – 02/01/08


Norris O. Gjerstad, age 62, of St. Bonifacius, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

He was born July 4, 1945, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Ann (Deling) Gjerstad.

Norris enjoyed fishing, gardening, and antique collecting, especially Power King Tractors. One of his favorite destinations was going to the cabin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Gjerstad; and a brother, Darrel Gjerstad.

 Norris is survived by his loving family: children and spouses, Richard and Michele Gjerstad of Mound, Dale Gjerstad and fiancée Cindy Torkelson of St. Bonifacius, Douglas and Karen Gjerstad of Montgomery, and Kathleen and Alan Huitt of Buffalo Center, Iowa; grandchildren Heather and Luke Brown, Carrie Coursolle and Shane Brethorst, Wayne and Jeri Landheer, Jennifer and Michael Christ, Janelle and Paul Youngers, Brett Torkelson, Adam Torkelson, Jeremy Scheffert, Amy Scheffert, Megan Scheffert, Morgan Gjerstad, Seth Huitt, and Willow Huitt; and six great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his mother, Ann Gjerstad of Buffalo Center, Iowa; sister-in-law Muriel Gjerstad of Howard Lake; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service took place Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with the Rev. Dick Mark officiating. Further services were Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa with the Rev. Perry Aalgaard officiating. Interment was at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Rich Gjerstad, Dale Gjerstad, Doug Gjerstad, Tim Gjerstad, Alan Huitt, and Mark Heenan.  

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
