Willard A. “Pete” Guetzkow, age 77, of New Germany, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born May 23, 1930, in Camden Township, Carver County, the son of Albert and Minnie (Goede) Guetzkow. Pete was baptized May 29, 1930, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf; and confirmed April 2, 1944 at the same church by the Rev. John Meyer.
Pete was a graduate of Central High School in Norwood Young America.
He was a talented musician, playing the accordion, concertina, organ and harmonica. He also excelled at woodworking, electrical work, art, and farming.
Pete also was an avid fisherman. He loved spending time with his sisters, niece, nephew, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Minnie Guetzkow; sister Laverna Venske; brothers-in-law Wilbert Schroeder and Virgil Venske; and niece Cheryl Berge.
Pete is survived by his sister, Viola Schroeder of Waconia; niece Betty Strei of New Germany; nephew Lonnie (Linda) Venske of New Germany; great nieces and nephews Vicky Strei of Chicago, Ill., Kathy (James) Thomas of Waconia, Clinton Berge of Silver Lake, and Ryan Venske of St. Louis Park; great-great nieces and nephews Matthew Thomas, Alicia, Erica and Shane Berge; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery in New Germany.
Family members were casket bearers.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
