Ethel Linnea Gundberg, age 87, of Willmar, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
She was born June 8, 1921, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Emil and Edith (Svensson) Gundberg. As a young child, she moved with her family to Kandiyohi, where she attended District 94 for her schooling.
Later, her family moved to a farm near Raymond, and she graduated from Willmar High School in 1939.
She continued her education at Augustina Hospital Nursing School in Chicago.
Ethel worked in Chicago and Minneapolis as a nurse, and later for the Cokato Ambulance Service, before retiring.
In 1969, Ethel received her bachelor of science degree in liberal arts from University of Wisconsin-Superior.
She was a member of Minnesota Retired Nurses and had been involved with hospice training.
In September, Ethel became a resident of Rice Care Center.
She was baptized in Medicine Lake, and had been a member of Assembly of God churches in Cokato and Willmar. She was active with Senior Group and Bible study.
Ethel is survived by her sister-in-law, Delores Gundberg of Tempe, AZ; nephew William Gundberg Jr, of Tempe, AZ; niece Shirley Gundberg of Chandler, AZ; and her extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William.
The funeral service was Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Assembly of God in Willmar, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at Cokato City Cemetery in Cokato.
Arrangements were with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials may be given to Rice Hospice.
