Leonard H. Gutzke, age 75, of Waconia, died Monday June 16, 2008, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain.
He was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Camden Township, Carver County, the son of Edwin A. and Adeline E (Schuettpelz) Gutzke. Leonard was baptized Sept. 11, 1932, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, and confirmed at the same church March 13, 1947.
Leonard married Verna A. Hilk May 27, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. John Stehr officiating.
Some of Leonard’s favorite activities were playing cards and fishing. He had a very strong faith and going to church was very important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Adeline Gutzke; sisters Darleen Boehner and Elaine Wegner; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred and Emma Hilk; sister-in-law Rose Marie Hilk; and brothers-in-law Willard Smith, Melvin Boehner and Edwin Wegner.
Leonard is survived by his loving family: wife Verna; daughters and son-in-law Susan Gutzke of Hopkins, and Gwen and Dan Maxwell of Delano; grandchildren Miranda and Mackenzie Maxwell; sister Delores “Dee” Smith of Mayer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Albert Hilk of Washington, Alfrieda and Lloyd Koehnen of Texas, Diann and Gerald Babb of Mound, and Ronald and Rosemarie Hilk of Eden Prairie; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Thursday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. Robert Alsleben officiating. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Harold Schuettpelz, David Babb, Tim Babb, Paul Babb, James Babb, and Russell Hilk.
