Frank Hayden Obituary – 07/19/08


Frank Hayden, age 84, of Watertown, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

He was born July 4, 1924, in De Smet, S.D. to James and Rhoda (Arher) Hayden.

Frank was a longtime business and civic leader in Watertown. He and his wife, Lavonne, owned Gambles Hardware and Hayden Furniture and Appliance.

He was a member of the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Watertown school board and city council.

Frank was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

He enjoyed refinishing furniture, pheasant hunting, golfing, bridge, and watching the Twins and Notre Dame football. Frank loved anything Irish and especially, St. Patrick’s Day. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and children, and spoiling his grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lavonne; children James Hayden and Beverly Ryther, Terrance and Terry Hayden, Barbara and Mark Hayden Haugen, Michelle and Jay Hayden Soderberg, and David and Kari Hayden; grandchildren Brittany and Chad Hinkle, Kelly and Clint Anderson, Erin Haugen, Erik Haugen, Tim Hayden, Molly Soderberg, Katie Hayden, Joe Hayden, Jimmy Soderberg, and Cormac Hayden; brothers Tom, Robert, and Pat Hayden; and a sister, Josephine Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rhoda Hayden; brothers Archibald, Alan, and Jack Hayden; and sisters Mary O’Conner, Winifred Hass, and Kathleen Hunt.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, July 23 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were Frank’s grandchildren: Brittany and Chad Hinkle, Kelly and Clint Anderson, Erin Haugen, Erik Haugen, Tim Hayden, Molly Soderberg, Katie Hayden, Joe Hayden, Jimmy Soderberg, and Cormac Hayden.

Arrangements were by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.
