Le Roy L. Henning Obituary – 11/09/08


Le Roy L. Henning, age 83, of New Germany, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in New Germany, the son of Henry W. and Lena (Schwartz) Henning. Le Roy was baptized Oct. 11, 1925, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with Rev. Theodore Rolf officiating, and confirmed by the same March 17, 1940.

Le Roy was united in marriage to Lucille M. Stern Sept. 10, 1949, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. John Spomer.

Le Roy was a loving husband, grandpa and great-grandpa.

He started Henning Excavating in 1953, and continued working with his sons until the time of his death.

Le Roy had many hobbies including going to flea markets, fishing, collecting tools, farming, playing cards, listening to old tyme music, and watching wrestling. He always enjoyed going out to eat a nice meal, and had the greatest pleasure just spending time with his family.

Le Roy is survived by his loving family: wife, Lucille; sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Genoa Henning, and David and Becky Henning, all of New Germany; grandchildren Jeremy and Heather Henning, Rosemary Schrempp, Ryan and Stacy Henning, Ryan and Sara Buesgens, and DeNae Henning; and great-grandchildren Brooke and Emery Henning.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Paulina and Le Roy Gutzke of Norwood Young America, Leonard and Carol Stern of Maple Plain, Elford Stern of Norwood Young America, Henry and Phyllis Stern of Maple Plain, Don and Rosie Stern of Mayer, and Fred Stern of Brooklyn Park; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Le Roy J. LaPlant officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a chapel service at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, and continued Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Dennis Henning, David Henning, Jeremy Henning, Ryan Henning, Gerald Henning, Kenneth Henning, DeNae Henning, Ryan Buesgens, and Rosemary Schrempp.
