Elnora H. Henschen

Elnora H. Henschen, age 80, of Norwood Young America, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.

She was born June 27, 1927, in Hancock Twp., Carver County, the daughter of John G. and Lydia C. (Rolf) Leikam. Elnora was baptized July 10, 1927, and confirmed April 6, 1941, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne, by the Rev. Herman AmEnd.

Elnora was united in marriage to Maynard W. Henschen Feb. 28, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne, by the Rev. R.W. Rottmann.

Elnora was a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. Elnora’s familiar face was always at worship services, Lutheran Women Missionary League meetings, choir, and Bible studies.

Elnora enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, and working on the farm, and she milked cows until she was 77 years old. Her grandchildren called Elnora “grandma farmer.”

Elnora also volunteered at the Once Again Thrift Store in Waconia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; parents John and Lydia Leikam; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Elda Leikam; sisters and brothers-in-law Leona and Reuben Anderson, and Anita and Norval Schmandke; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Hulda Henschen; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Carmen Henschen and Raymond and Olive Henschen.

Elnora is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Pauline and Gerald Bergt of Fairmont, Daniel and Patty Henschen of Springfield, Ill., and David and Cindy Henschen of Norwood Young America; grandchildren David and Mandy Bergt, Christine and Jered Sprecher, Jonathan and Natasha Bergt, Aaron Bergt, Kathleen Bergt, Lydia and Quinn Tirrel, Jacob Henschen, Joel Henschen, Sam and Megan Henschen, Leah and Eric Janzen, and Mary Henschen; and great-grandchildren Josh, Hannah, and Levi.

Elnora is further survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Raymond Felt of Bloomington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Hilton and Nadine Henschen of Austin, Lester and Elsie Henschen of Carver, and Ellen and OrlindHerrmann of Colorado Springs, Colo; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was Sunday March 9 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne, with the Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Elnora’s grandchildren, Mary Henschen, Leah Janzen, Sam Henschen, Joel Henschen, Jacob Henschen, and Aaron Bergt.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
