Jeanette Becker Herrmann, age 93, of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit.
She was born July 5, 1914, in Stoneham Township, Chippewa County, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Heilke (Dannen) Becker. Jeanette was baptized Aug. 9, 1914, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.
Jeanette graduated from District 35 Chippewa County School, Stoneham Township in 1928.
She was confirmed into the faith April 16, 1935, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Township, rural Lester Prairie.
Jeanette was united in marriage with Harold Herrmann Nov. 14, 1934, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Township. The couple made their home on the family farm near Lester Prairie, where they farmed 80 acres. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, and they celebrated nearly 53 years together before Harold passed away Oct. 24, 1987.
Jeanette remained living on the farm until 1996, when she moved to Mayer, and then to Watertown in 2003.
Jeanette worked seasonally canning sweet corn at Green Giant in Winsted until it closed, and then in Glencoe until 1984.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, and quilting. Jeanette’s sewing projects included tatting cross bookmarks for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church confirmation classes.
She attended Sunday school and senior citizen’s group in Lester Prairie.
Jeanette became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit in August 2007.
In addition to her husband, Harold, Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred Becker; a sister, Martha Schwitters; brothers-in-law Harry Schwitters, Walter Peglow, and Howard Heller; and a sister-in-law, Marian Becker.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Lois Zuehl (husband Merle) of Newton, Kan., Linda Dettman (husband Gary) of Stewart, and Susan Ziermann (husband Curtis) of Mayer; grandchildren Brenda Ringenberg (husband Mark) of Plymouth, Ind., Timothy Zuehl (wife Angie) of Sioux City, Iowa, Mike Dettman (wife Patti) of Hutchinson, Sarah Baumgartner (husband Jeff) of Shakopee, Phillip Ziermann of Minnetonka, and Daniel Ziermann of Milwaukee, Wis.; and great-grandchildren Garrison and Grant Ringenberg, Megan and Nicole Zuehl, and Mackenzie and Anthony Dettman.
She is further survived by siblings Emma Peglow of Peterborough, N.H., Herman Becker (wife Rosella) of Montevideo, George Becker of Clara City, Cora Heller of Port Charolotte, Fla., and Vernon Becker of Clara City; sister-in-law Arlene Kirby of Orem, Utah; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Monday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Marsha Christensen. Congregational hymns included “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” and “This Is My Father’s World.” Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Brenda Ringenberg, Timothy Zuehl, Mike Dettman, Sarah Baumgartner, Phillip Ziermann, and Daniel Ziermann. Honorary casket bearers were Mark Ringenberg, Angie Zuehl, Patti Dettman, and Jeff Baumgartner.
