Garlen L. Hintz Obituary – 05/14/08


Garlen L. Hintz, age 80, of rural Howard Lake, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born in Howard Lake Aug. 30, 1927, the son of Louis E. and Emma Christoffer Hintz. Garlen was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake Sept. 25, 1927, instructed in the Lutheran Catechism, and confirmed in the Christian faith March 17, 1940, at St. James Lutheran by the Rev. Eugene Seltz. His confirmation memory verse was I Timothy 4:8.

Garlen graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1945.

He was joined in holy marriage to Eva V. Hess Oct. 16, 1946, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. God blessed their marriage with a daughter, Linda.

Garlen engaged in dairy farming for many years in both Victor and Middleville townships in Wright County. He also drove truck to the Green Giant plant.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eva V. Hintz; a daughter, Linda K. (Bob) Lawler of Buffalo; grandchildren Michael (Sue) Lawler and Paul (Sue) Lawler, all of Annandale; great-grandchildren Aaron and Cassie Lawler; two sisters, LaVern (James) Franklin of Big Lake, and Carol (Donald) Helinske of St. Paul; and other relatives and friends.

Garlen was preceded in death by his parents, Louis E. and Emma Hintz; and two sisters, infant Evelyn, and Germaine Hallerbach.

A memorial service took place Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted with Albert Lorentz officiating. Private interment took place at Howard Lake City Cemetery.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
