Violet M. Hron, age 99, of Jordan formerly of Cologne, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
She was born Aug. 19, 1909, in Cologne, the daughter of William F. and Elizabeth (Willemsen) Zehnder. Violet was baptized and confirmed at the Cologne Methodist Church.
She was united in marriage May 1, 1929, to Roland J. Hron at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne.
Vi was a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She was a woman of faith and a devoted and caring person for her parents.
She was an active member of the local Catholic Aid Council, a 4-H leader, a member of the Cologne Senior Citizens, Homemakers, and took great pleasure in being the mayor’s wife.
Vi enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, crocheting, cooking, traveling, playing cards, playing the piano, and listening to old time music. Her greatest joy in life was being with her family and friends.
Vi worked at the Minnesota Arboretum and was a cook at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Cologne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland J. Hron; daughter Donna Hron; grandsons Anthony Hron and Kevin Wessale; father and mother, William and Elizabeth Zehnder; siblings Lydia, Clara, Edwin, Fred, Elmer, Art, Herb, Harold, William, Florence and Rosie; father-in-law and mother-in-law Wenzel and Monica Hron; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Winifred, Lyle, Mae, Catherine, Grace, Susan, Ramona and Elsie.
Vi is survived by her loving family: children and spouses Roland L. and Jan Hron of Eden Prairie, Dennis and Mary Ann Hron of Shakopee, Patricia Wessale of Cologne, and Deborah and Myron Pauly of Jordan.; grandchildren Terri and Gary Lane, Roland “Jim” and Kathy Hron, Cheryl and Larry Volkmann, Renee and Jeff Zirbes, Joseph Hron, Denise Hron, Mike Hron, Patrick Hron, David Hron, Diane and Matt Fink, Linda Swanson, Steve and Audrey Wessale, Jeff and LuAnn Wessale, Lynn and Jon Stusse, Lori Wessale, Kristin and Al Thomas, Kara and Brian Breeggemann, Jacob Pauly and fiancé Andrea Boyum, Joshua Pauly; and great-grandchildren Janelle and Joel, Rachel and Sean, Alyssa, Angela, Tony, Karen, Kevin, Valerie, Melanie, Adam, Brian, Jonathan and Beth, Christopher, Jacqueline, Ashley, Dustin, Jordan, Jacob, Cody, Dusty, Christina, Matthew, Bryan, Abigail, Katrina, Tiera, Garrett, Corey, Ashley, Madison, Bailey, Jordan, Lexi, Connor, Tristan, Keegan, Cullen, Makayla, and Dylan.
She is further survived by a great-great-grandson, Dominic; step-grandchildren David and RoseAnne Gilmore, Catherine and Steve Long, and Tamara and Scott Sather; step-great-grandchildren Ashley, Keaton, Sonja, Simon, Eric, Annika, and Lili; step-great-great-grandchildren Isabella and Kane; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Monica Tesch of Watertown, Delpha Erdman, LaQuita and Waldo Rolf of North Branch, Melva and Jack Carson of Minneapolis, James and Laura Hron of Carver, Donald Hron of Bloomington; and special friends Lorraine Olson of Florida, and Gary Wessale of Winthrop.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, with visitation for two hours prior to the service. Father Timothy Yanta was the celebrant of the Mass. Interment was at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Cologne.
Vi’s grandchldren were her casket bearers.
