Deloris Marjorie (Brinkmeier) Karels of Lester Prairie entered her eternal rest August 5, 2008 at Glencoe Regional Health Services at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Deloris was born August 30, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Fred and Lena (Birkholz) Brinkmeier. She was baptized on January 23, 1919 in Minneapolis and was confirmed into the faith on March 20, 1932 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Deloris attended country school near Lester Prairie.
On October 14, 1937, Deloris was united in marriage with Harold Karels at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Over the years, Deloris worked for Basil Produce, Tonka Toys, as a restaurant cook, and did house cleaning in the Twin Cities.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, baking and cooking, and she especially enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Deloris is survived by her children Janice Lampher (husband: Wes) of Hastings, Nebraska, Joyce Burandt (husband: Larry) of Lester Prairie and David Karels (wife: Kim) of Waverly; grandchildren Julie Richardson (husband: Steve) of Hastings, Nebraska, Lori Nelson (husband: Dave) of Omaha, Nebraska, Nancy Turkington of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Bruce Burandt (wife: Carol) of Altoona, Wisconsin, Kim Kletscher (husband: Bruce) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kristi Alberts (husband: Rick) of Lester Prairie, Paul Burandt (special friend: Ruth) of Delano, Andrew Karels (wife: Erica) of Waverly, Nicole Karels (fiancé: Antonio Wesley) of Brooklyn Center and Chris Karels of Waverly; great-grandchildren Bradley Richardson (wife: Noel), Emily Richardson, Jeffrey Richardson, Derek Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Haleigh Nelson, Dillon Nelson, Dalton Nelson, Adam Burandt, Jacob Burandt, Karina Kletscher, Maren Kletscher, William Kletscher, Krystal Kube (husband: Adam), Breanna Alberts, Mackenzie Alberts, Abbey Burandt, Hayden Turkington, Spencer Turkington, Hunter Turkington, Zakariah Karels, Isaiah Karels and Noah Karels; step great-grandmother of Eric Kurtz (wife: Kara), Jason Kurtz and Jesse Kurtz; great-great grandmother of Brayson Richardson; sister-in-law of Charles and Viola Ohm of Litchfield; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Deloris were held Friday, August 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Officiating was Rev. Gerald Boldt. The musical selections included “In The Garden,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Abide With Me.”
Serving as casket bearers were Bruce Burandt, Paul Burandt, Andrew Karels, Chris Karels, Steve Richardson, Rick Alberts, Bruce Kletscher, Jeffrey Richardson and Brad Richardson. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
