\Darlene Kern, age 73, of rural Waverly, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
She was born July 17, 1935, in Eureka, SD, the daughter of Reinhold and Martha Eiseman Wanner. Darlene was baptized at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND by the Rev. Freyman. She was instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Luke’s in 1949, by the Rev. T. F. Doyen.
Darlene and Wallace Kern were joined in holy marriage Jan. 21, 1962, in Bismarck, ND. God blessed their marriage with three sons.
Darlene was formerly employed as a medical secretary for a clinic in Bismarck, ND.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening, and was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Wallace E. Kern; sons Ronald Kern of Watertown, Randall Kern, and Gregory Kern, both of Dassel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barb Smith of Howard Lake, Bea (Don) Zellman of Arlington, Waldemar (Gretta) Kern of Waverly, and Warren Kern of Howard Lake; and many other relatives and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Reinhold and Martha Wanner.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Nancy Butterfass was the organist, and interment was at St. James Lutheran Cemetery.
Vsitation was Monday, Nov. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casket bearers were Jon Smith, Sherwin Schwartzrock, Jeff Smith, Nathan Zellmann, Charlie Kern, and Wyatt Kern.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
