Elizabeth V. Klawitter, age 90 of Hutchinson, Minn. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.
Elizabeth Klawitter was born Oct. 27, 1917, in a cottage at Lake Charlotte, in Wright County, rural Buffalo, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hinteregger) Painschab.
Elizabeth was baptized as an infant in Minneapolis and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 9, 1933, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corcoran. She received her elementary education at various schools in Minnesota and later received her G.E.D. as an adult.
On Dec. 4, 1937, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Erwin Klawitter at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sheridan in Redwood Falls, Minn., by Erwin’s uncle, the Reverend G. R. Schuetze. Elizabeth and Erwin resided in Hutchinson. They shared 52 years of marriage, until Erwin passed away Oct. 6, 1990.
Elizabeth was a loving homemaker and mother. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lynn Township, McLeod County. She was a member of the Hutchinson Community Hospital Auxiliary and worked as a mail messenger. Elizabeth also worked as a volunteer in the beauty shop at the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson for 23 years.
Elizabeth enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, photography, tracking family history, corresponding with family and friends, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Elizabeth especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In 1999, Elizabeth became a resident of the Prince of Peace Retirement Living in Hutchinson. Elizabeth passed away Sept. 3.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Kenneth Klawitter and his wife, Judy of Hutchinson, Richard Klawitter and his wife, Shirley of Slayton, Kirby Olesen and his wife, Eileen of Woodbury
She is further survived by grandchildren, Kari Pfenning and her husband, Tom of North Oaks, Paul Klawitter and his wife, Karla of Hutchinson, Tracy Van Oort and her husband, Aaron of Roseville, Derek Klawitter of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren, Joshua Klawitter, Lukus Klawitter, Chandler Klawitter, Matthew Pfenning, Lexi Pfenning, Daniel Van Oort, Thomas Van Oort, Jonathan Van Oort, Luke Van Oort;
Also surviving her are sisters, Louise Hohag and her husband, Warner and Anna Hohag, all of Waverly, Rose Skonberg and her husband, Loren of Glenwood, Charlotte Lindstrom of Fresno, Calif; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Painschab; husband, Erwin Klawitter, son, Donald Klawitter; brothers, Leonard Painschab, Arnold Painschab, John Painschab, Herman Painschab, Joseph Painschab and George Painschab; sister, Antonia Doering.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lynn Township, McLeod County, with interment in the church cemetery.
Pastor Daniel Reich officiated the service.
Organist for the service was Marion Rick.
