Leonard J. Koehnen, age 76, of Mound, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at the Presbyterian Homes in Spring Park.
He was born June 25, 1931, in Watertown, the son of Edward and Margaret (Miller) Koehnen.
Leonard was united in marriage to Joanne R. Hilgers Sept. 4, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.
Leonard treasured the time spent with his family. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Mound Knights of Columbus.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; son Michael Koehnen; parents Edward and Margaret Koehnen; sisters Marie, Elizabeth, Frances and Dorothy; and brothers Edward, Earl, Robert, and James.
He is survived by his loving family: sons David Koehnen of Mound and his children, Leslie and David Jr.; Terry and Heidi Koehnen of Tonka Bay and their children, Kris, Kory, and Ari; and Mark Koehnen and special friend Judy Poth of Mound, and his son, Jason and his friend, Erin Barrett; sisters and brothers-in-law Gertrude Schuler and friend Bob of Ironton, Lorraine and Bob LaBatt of Coon Rapids, Marilyn Lloyd and friend Ward of Mesa, Ariz., and Barbara and Ken Rench of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and brother and sisters-in-law Bill and Joyce Koehnen of Bemidji, Florence Koehnen of Mound, and Frances Koehnen of New Prague.
Leonard is further survived by his step mother-in-law Wanda Hilgers of Mound; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Karen and Roger Schuler of St. Bonifacius, Judy and John Winterhalter of Minnetonka, Alfred and Mary Ann Hilgers of Deephaven, and Gary and Judy Hilgers of Maple Grove; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mound with Father Stan Mader as celebrant of the Mass. Interment was at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Cemetery in Minnetrista.
Casket bearers were Leonard’s sons and grandsons, David Koehnen, Terry Koehnen, Mark Koehnen, Jason Koehnen, Kory Koehnen, and David Koehnen.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
