Jeanette R. Kuenzel, age 85, of Mayer, died Monday Oct. 6, 2008, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Jan. 13, 1923, in Waconia, the daughter of Emil and Laura (Vollrath) Jaekel. Jeanette was baptized Jan. 28, 1923, and confirmed March 21, 1937, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. William Schneider.
Jeanette was united in marriage to Ortwin A. Kuenzel Dec. 15, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Robert Heyne.
A loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, Jeanette was a hard-working woman. She and her husband, Ortwin, farmed in Watertown Township from 1943-1971. After leaving the farm, they moved to Mayer.
Jeanette was a wonderful cook and baker, famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Her favorite activities were church, Bible study, reading her Bible daily, gardening, her flower beds, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, dancing with Ortwin, playing cards, and fishing. She had special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to as many of their activities as possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Laura Jaekel; brother Willis Jaekel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gilbert Kuhlmann, Della Kuenzel, Ann Kuenzel, Melvin Kuenzel, Glenn and Barbara Kuenzel, Ruben Schumacher, and in infancy, Evelyn Kuenzel; father-in-law Fred Kuenzel; and mothers-in-law Minnie Kuenzel and Hilma Kuenzel.
Jeanette is survived by her loving family: husband of 64 years, Ortwin; children and spouses Angela and Virgil Bentz of St. Bonifacius, Orlin Kuenzel and special friend Carole of Webster, and Karol Nielsen of Chanhassen; grandchildren Todd and Terri Bentz of Richfield, Kristen and Ty Lehrke of Watertown, Craig and Denise Kuenzel of Lakeville, and Kellijean and Dewey Fisher of Riverton, WY; and great-grandchildren Sydney Lehrke, Cassie Lehrke, Nicole Heintz, and Blake Heintz.
Jeanette is further survived by a sister, Florence Kuhlmann of Buffalo Lake; sisters-in-law Lucille Jaekel of Remer, John Kuenzel of Norwood Young America, Lyla and Hilton Schwalbe of Buffalo, Opal Schumacher of Mayer, Ruth Kuenzel of Excelsior, and Duane and Carolyn Kuenzel of Belle Plaine; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was Friday Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, with visitation beginning at noon until the time of the service. The Rev. Phil Wagner officiated. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery
Casket bearers were Jeanette’s grandchildren, Todd and Terri Bentz, Kristen and Ty Lehrke, Craig and Denise Kuenzel, and Kellijean and Dewey Fisher.
