Betty Jeanne Lockerby, age 86 ,of Woodville, Wis., formerly of Minneapolis, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Park View Home in Woodville.
She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Ellsworth, Wis., the daughter of Francis and Meda (Packer) Lockerby. Betty’s family moved to Bloomer, Wis., where she attended school, graduating from Bloomer High School with the class of 1938.
Betty spent summers visiting her grandparents and other relatives in Delano.
She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, receiving a bachelor of science degree, in 1942, specializing in library science.
Betty was employed at the Eau Claire Public Library, and then worked over 30 years for the City of Minneapolis Public Library, where she was a children’s and bookmobile librarian, retiring in 1979.
A world traveler, Betty visited many foreign countries during her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Meda (Packer) Lockerby; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Sunnie Lockerby.
Betty is survived by three nephews: Michael (Kalo) Lockerby of Red Wing, Hugh (Diana) Lockerby of Wilson, Wis., and Frank (Cindi) Lockerby of Waukesha, Wis.; grand nieces and nephews: Joy, Jon, Hugh, Sonja, Dustin, and Drew Lockerby; Lillian Balfany; and cousins Mary Nolan and Sylvia Diem of Delano.
A memorial service will take place at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville with burial of cremated remains in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville.
