Alex C. Marketon, age 73, of rural Waverly, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Middleville Township, Wright County, the son of Andrew and Florence Fautsch Marketon. Alex was born on, farmed, and lived his entire life on the family homestead.
He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1953, and honorably served his country in the US Army.
Alex was joined in holy marriage to Shirley A. Pierson June 22, 1963, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Chaska. God blessed their marriage with four daughters.
A faithful member of The Church of St. Mary in Waverly, Alex also belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Shirley A. Marketon; four daughters: Cheryl (Craig) Schewe of Maple Grove, Jeanette (Jay) Benson of Mantorville, Judy (Chris) Kittock of Waverly, and Tammy (Tom) Van Der Linden of Bailey’s Harbor, Wis.; 10 grandchildren: Emily; Courtney, Brooke, Jessie and Bailey; Ben, Ryan and Eryn; and Ashley and Brandon; sisters Lorraine (Erwin) Drews of Plymouth and Catherine Schmidt of Montrose; and many other relatives and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Florence Marketon.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, May 19 at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly with Father Timothy Cloutier as the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, May 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were Don Marketon, Joe Marketon, Art Marketon, Bryan Pierson, Melvin Schmidt, and Dan Fahey.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
