Alfred A. Melchert

Alfred A. Melchert, age 80, of Paynesville, formerly of Waconia, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Laketown Township, Carver County, the son of August W. and Theresa (Molnau) Melchert. Alfred was baptized March 11, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. William F. Schneider; and confirmed by the same March 29, 1942.

He was a 1946 graduate of Waconia High School.

Al loved to be with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His favorite enjoyments also included farming, playing cards, golfing, and cutting his lawn.

Al spent years showing his Guernsey cattle at county and state fairs. His favorite farm equipment was his John Deere tractors.

He took much enjoyment watching the squirrels his last years.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents August and Theresa Melchert; brothers Rev. John Melchert and Gilbert Melchert; and sisters Lillian Beiersdorf and Esther Pranschke.

He is survived by his loving family: long-time companion Lil Jacobson of Paynesville; children and spouses Pamela and David Schrupp of Paynesville, Mary and Michael Ditsch of Watertown, and Jonathon and Cheryl Melchert of Cologne; grandchildren Julie and Mark Evensen, Matthew Schrupp, Robert and Jennifer Schrupp, Timothy and Megan Schrupp, Katherine Schrupp, Michelle Ditsch, Marcus Ditsch and friend Marissa, Melissa Ditsch, Travis Melchert, Heather Melchert, amd Jacob Melchert; and great-grandchildren Alex Schrupp, Evan Schrupp, Blake Ditsch, and Lindsey Evensen.

Al is further survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Alvina and Frank Roberts of Hudson, Wis.; extended family, Mark and Diane Jacobson and their children of Blaine, Brian and Pam Jacobson and their children of Paynesville, Russell Jacobson and his children of St. Cloud, and David and Young Hee Jacobson and their children of Germany; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was Saturday March 1 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Waconia with the Rev. Peter Peitsch officiating. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Waconia.

Alfred’s grandchildren were the casket bearers.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
